About The Foundation

The Family Assistance Education & Research Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded in 2000. Our mission is to empower people touched by any kind of tragedy, and we accomplish it through teaching and employing Human Services Response™ (HSR™).

HSR™ is a non-counseling approach to assisting people during a crisis. It was created by Foundation President and Co-Founder Carolyn V. Coarsey, Ph.D. and refined through decades of research and successful use in countless real-world scenarios. This proven model is the basis for the Foundation’s training and that of many “Care Teams” worldwide.

HSR™ methods and practices enable organizations in any industry to successfully meet the needs of people affected by a crisis by knowing what to do, how to do it, and when. It is built upon one of our fundamental principles – that the true experts and teachers are those who have lived the experience: survivors, family members, responders, and others in the “ripple” that encompasses everyone affected by a tragedy.

These courageous people share with us what was helpful to them, and what was not, and from there comes the knowledge we at the Foundation use to train and educate all who seek to serve in times of crisis.
